Hi Jack. Maybe it's just a glitch, try restarting your phone and see if problem persist. Also please check Settings -> Messages -> Storage -> change to SIM or Phone and see if that fixes it.

I have this problem too....tried those ideas still no luck? Anyone have any success with this? 

Hi my mum keeps getting message sms box is full with just 21 messages but it records sent as about 509 whats wrong please help

Try to restart your phone after deleting messages to refresh storage. Let me know if that works.

Not really an answer to this but my fathers phone does the same thing tried the refresh and it has made no difference,even rang the network he uses to no avail.

Hi Sue. Can you try a simple restart. Maybe the phone needs to refresh the network signal.

Is your phone locked with a carrier? Where was the phone bought?

This is what sorted it out on mine:

From the main Menu, select Settings, then select Messages, then select Delete,  then select Delete All, and that will do it.  

Do you have anything else saved on the phone?

Hi Simon. Can you describe what exactly happens? Also, does this happen only or on random times? I'm thinking maybe you just have bad coverage.

Hi Simon. Maybe it's just a signal issue, turn off then turn on the phone to refresh it. If it still won't work, check your account if you still have messages/texts left.

OK, I've done it now. I found an old sim card of mine and practised on that first before screwing up the wife's sim card.

You have to remember where the original trimmed corner was, (cos you cut that off when trimming) and that corner is inserted first, this is the opposite way around to what it was in the original phone.

Text messages not saved
