Who they are
SmartLess Mobile is a prepaid carrier founded by the hosts of the SmartLess podcast, actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, as an extension of that show. It runs on T-Mobile and is an all-digital brand with no stores, handling sign-ups and plan management through its website and app. Its pitch is keeping phone bills low by leaning on Wi-Fi.
Network & coverage
SmartLess Mobile runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide network, including its 5G and 4G LTE, so coverage tracks T-Mobile’s footprint. One catch worth knowing: as a value brand, its data can be deprioritized behind T-Mobile’s own customers during congestion, and once a plan’s high-speed data is used up, high-speed access pauses until you buy an add-on rather than billing automatic overage.
How pricing works
SmartLess Mobile is prepaid with no contract, no startup fee, and no early-termination fee, offering a few data tiers aimed at lighter users, with an introductory discount on the entry tier for new lines. Taxes and fees are not included; sales taxes plus a federal Universal Service fee and a regulatory recovery fee are added per line. Hotspot is included on all plans, and there are no automatic overage charges.
Who it’s for
SmartLess Mobile suits light data users who spend most of their day on Wi-Fi and want a low monthly bill on T-Mobile coverage, with hotspot included and no surprise overages. It is less suited to heavy data users who’d repeatedly need add-ons, or anyone who wants taxes-included billing or in-person support. The alternatives below are worth a look if heavy data or all-in pricing is your priority.
BEWARE!!! I hope none of you are expecting to get a free replacement phone from Assurance. My phone died yesterday and after calling twice and speaking to numerous people including a supervisor they made it very clear that they do not have any more free phones to give out as replacements. I was told that the warranty on my phone ran out and that I was SOL. They said that I had to buy a new phone.
